Some Days, I Would Rather Do Anything Else, Than Work

  • Reading time:8 mins read

This happens to me all the time. Especially since I work from home, and I have no one really telling me that I need to get to work, or I need to get shit done. In fact, I could spend my entire day contemplating the length of my fingernails, and no one would be the wiser. That's one of the dilemmas of people like me, who work from home, who are creative, who need to get in the mood to create shit, and who sometimes are just not in the mood to do anything. Just today, as I psyched myself up to write this blog post, I spent 3 hours procrastinating in the following manner. I read manga on a couch that got more and more comfortable as time went on, took a 15 minute nap, cut my fingernails, ate my lunch, drank some coconut water, read some more manga, browsed Facebook for something (anything, please God). Finally, I sat down on…

[Ep 87] Do Your Business Your Way

  • Reading time:3 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be talking to you about how people tend to look up to and copy other people life strategies in hopes that they will emulate that persons' success. I advocate the policy of modifying other people's strategies to fit your own lifestyle, characteristics, and personality traits. That's the way to be truly successful. We need to do our own thing in life. Many people seem to think that if they follow the format that someone else is using to run their business then they will also become successful. The problem is that just because one strategy worked for one person, that doesn't mean that this strategy would work for you as well. It's a hit-or-miss kind of strategy. We need to stand out from the crowd, do our own thing and not be a sheep following the herd. • Reading time:3 mins read

In this episode, I’ll be talking to you about three big lessons that I learned during the first year of running my own business. There are hundreds of little lessons that I have accumulated in the past year, some that I am aware of, others that I am not. I wanted to share the top three with you, because these are lessons that are transferable to all areas of life. Not just business, but everything else you can imagine. Podcast content The power of meditation The joys of consistency The bounty of patience My coaching program During the past year of creating and growing my own business, I’ve discovered just how powerful meditation can really be! Whenever I’m feeling stressed or any negative emotions, a short session of meditation can change my whole mood around. Meditation slows your thoughts down and lets you become conscious to the world around you as it is now. It helps me calm down and relax, it…

Don’t Let The Internet Rush You – No One Is Posting Their Failures

  • Reading time:4 mins read

Recently, I read this awesome quote attributed to Wesley Snipes (on his Twitter account), and I instantly copied and pasted it into my archives of useful quotes. It’s basically the title of this post – Don’t let the internet rush you; No one is posting their failures.

Boom! Bam! Bing! Absolutely on point. As soon as I read it, I got goosebumps, and that’s when I know something that I am reading (or listening to or whatever) is important. That’s how your body’s intelligence tells you that something is important. It’s not a random coincidence that your body chose that exact moment to get chilly.

The reason I wanted to write a blog post on this topic was because it’s so relevant to all of us creatives and entrepreneurs out there. All we see are the success stories. All we see are those people out there making millions and smashing every business goal set in their lifetime.

Meanwhile, we are sitting here, making piddly amounts of money, hoping that one day, our work will pay off; someday in the far, far, far off future, perhaps. (more…)

If You Are Not Going To Be Serious About Your Work, No One Else Will

  • Reading time:5 mins read

When I first quit my job to start my own business, I didn’t take it seriously, or as seriously as I take it now. I would let people distract me from my work, I would roam around during my most creative hours looking for dates or doing groceries, and I got embarrassed when people would tell me I didn’t have a real job.

I bought it upon myself. I didn’t take the work that I was doing seriously. The problem was that I thought that I wasn’t working on a full-time job anymore, and therefore, I started behaving as if I were on a perpetual holiday. Thankfully, that didn’t last long, because I realized I had to start making money soon or move back in with my parents. And I was not moving back in with my parents.

Now, my mentality towards my business is completely different. No matter what else is going on in the world, my business and my creative work comes first.  (more…)

Are You Focusing Your Energies On The Wrong Questions?

  • Reading time:13 mins read

I get asked this particular question a lot from newbie business owners, or people who are trying to set up an online business, and it always acts like a stumbling block for people.

The question being, “Should I build my business under my name, or under a random moniker, like you have done with The Millionaire Hippie?”

It’s weird to me, how this question seems to paralyze the people who ask it for weeks, months, or even years on end. I know of one friend who hasn’t been able to figure out the answer to this question, and it has been at least 8 years for her.

I want to tell you guys one thing, and only one thing (which is usually what I tell the people who ask me the question as well) – It doesn’t matter. (more…)

People Be Like, How Much Money Are You Making Now?

  • Reading time:5 mins read

In normal society, asking someone how much they make is absolutely taboo. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or bad. But that’s how it is. But for some reason, the tables turn when you start a business. All of a sudden, all the inner workings of your finances, and your business are fodder for everyone’s conversations, and questions.

Strangers will emerge from the woodwork like scary zombies, and ask you extremely personal questions about your business and work life. It doesn’t seem odd anymore. And if you try to turn the question around back at them, they bristle as if you have offended them.

Okay. That’s fine. I guess, I am not human anymore. Or at least part of this society. I feel like an untouchable of sorts, an outcast, a person pushed to the edges of society, to live in scourge and filth. (more…)

Most People Are Going To Believe You Will Fail

  • Reading time:6 mins read

Every single person I speak to, who has a big dream or even a small one, has a similar story. They might have just started on their path or they might be at their dream already. No matter what, they have all have a similar tale to tell.

It begins something like this…’I was walking down the street, and a coconut fell on my head..’ Sorry, wrong story. Let me try again. ‘One day I decided enough was enough. I am going to live the life I dream of, even if it kills me.’ And they go on and tell everyone they know of their dream (their first mistake). Every single person they speak to, looks at them with fear and anxiety in their eyes.

‘But how will you pay the mortgage or the bills? And you know 80% of businesses fail. 95% of actors never actually make it. 92% of bands end up playing in clubs and never going anywhere….’ A thousand stats will be thrown at you, all of it designed to deter you from clawing up out of the insane reality that is our current reality. There Are Going To Be Days When Everything Goes Wrong

  • Reading time:6 mins read

‘But my website has been down for 3 days!’ I yelled at a customer service representative, instantly regretting yelling at someone who was obviously not at fault. I took a deep breath, and asked the rep to help me fix my website issues today. I needed my website to be up again. I was losing precious potential clients every moment it was down. I was pulling my hair out at the frustration of it all.

Not only that, but I hadn’t had a chance to take a shower in 2 days because I didn’t have time, and my hair needed a cut. If you wanted me to keep on going, I could. I had a long list of things I had to do, and they weren’t getting done. Everyone around me was incompetent, and I was all alone.

It was a miracle I didn’t have a nervous breakdown. Well, I was close to one, when my website miraculously came back up and I breathed a sigh of relief.

Why did I do that to myself? Why did I push myself so hard? What was I trying to do to my business and to myself? (more…)
