There are many ways to live a life. There are many ways to not live a life as well. For the longest time, I felt like I was doing the latter. Oh, I was breathing in oxygen, and breathing out carbon dioxide at a regular frequency. But I felt like something was missing from the equation of breathing in and out. It wasn't like I was breathing in and out for some awesome goal in the future. I didn't want children or marriage, so what was I actually living for? Just to keep on buying a lot of useless shit, to put into a home that I barely spent anytime in. I spent all of my free time shopping, because I was so bored at work, that I needed to soothe myself with lots of pretty little things, that lost their shimmer almost as soon as I had purchased them. Why Am I Obsessed With The Digital Nomad Lifestyle?

Why am I obsessed with the digital nomad lifestyle? Why do I want to spread it to the ends of the Earth? Why do I talk about it incessantly? These are all great questions. Valid ones, too.

Time Freedom Is True Freedom

My answer? It is because Digital Nomads (DNs) in my opinion are free in the true sense of the word. In my opinion, they are the freest of the humans out there. There aren’t any that are freer. I know people dream about becoming celebrities, or billionaires, but in my opinion, these individuals are not free. They cannot travel anywhere they want at their own whim. They might have a lot of money, but they lack time.

And my friends, time is the new hot currency.

There are millions of us, who have money, but no time. True freedom is all about time.

Retirement Is Dead

Think about the typical scenario. Most people spend decades working really hard, giving up on their hobbies, and their relationships, to make a lot of money. Hopefully after all of that effort, they have gained some form of financial independence. Sadly, most people work all of their lives, and never gain any sort of financial independence. But let’s assume in this scenario that they worked long and hard, and they see the rainbow. They have enough money to do what they want. What do most people do? They travel for a bit. They rummage around in their gardens. They write a little bit. But after a while, they wonder was this what they worked so hard for? Was this all? (more…)
