Why Are So Many People So Interested In Supporting Creative People?

  • Reading time:11 mins read

Recently, a friend of mine and I were chatting about how there are so many communities out there, Patreon, being just one of them, that is a way for ‘normal’, i.e., non-creative people, to support the ‘creative’ folks. Supporting creative people who are not like them.

The creative people are the dreamers, the doers, and the change-makers of society. But that crazy, kooky way of life, resulted in the past a lot of starving artist mode. Where you lived in your parent’s basement until you made it big (if you ever did).

But the Internet, and all of those amazing creative communities online, MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and so many more, are all changing the way the world views creative people. For the first time in history, everyone who is connected to the Internet can view creative people from all over planet Earth.

Someone in Okhlahoma can listen to a Turkish band. And anyone from Australia can be a fan of a indy band from a little town in Alaska.

The possibilities are endless. (more…)

The Less We Want And Need, The More Creative Energy Remains

  • Reading time:6 mins read

I have been realizing more and more that every time I purchase anything, I am giving away some of my precious psychic energy that I have inside of me to that item. To store it, to take care of it, to move it around, to hold it, to use it, and so much more. It is the same with anything we put into our schedule, anything we have in our emails, any relationship we have, and everything else you can imagine.

We start off every single day with a certain amount of willpower, and creative energy. Depleting it over the day. But the same thing applies to psychic energy – we have a limited amount of mental energy stored in our minds and bodies. Every moment of every day we are giving our energy away to so many random unimportant things.

For example, we might get bumped by a person walking on the sidewalk with us or on the subway with us, and it was unintentional. But instantly we get angry, and ready to kill them. We start yelling at them, either outwardly or inwardly. Putting so much energy into something that is just a random coincidence, and doesn’t deserve so much of our attention or energy.  (more…)

When You Are Working On Your Stuff, You Are Never Alone

  • Reading time:6 mins read

I was having coffee with a friend of mine the other day, and she asked me a question that made me think. So as usual, I used it as fodder for a new blog post, and here we are.

She asked me the following question. ‘Do you ever get lonely when you are working all day by yourself? Or when you are travelling on your own as a digital nomad?’

Wow. Such a great question. She said a lot more, but this particular question caught my attention. I wanted to share my opinion on the matter, which is just my opinion. Let’s see how it goes.

So here it is.

I Am Loneliest In A Crowd Of People

[bctt tweet=”The truth of the matter is that I was loneliest when I worked in an office setting.” username=”BoomShikha”]

It wasn’t because I disliked the stuff I was working on, which was true. But because the people I worked with weren’t part of my tribe, and I knew that. I would say all of these things that came from my heart and they would look at me, like I was crazy.

I remember that look very clearly, and in order to avoid that look, I kept all of myself away from these individuals. I didn’t share my true self in the office in order to fit in, and I did fit in, but I lost myself. (more…)

Why Aren’t Gypsy Hearts Really Appreciated In This World?

  • Reading time:7 mins read

I have a gypsy heart. I wish sometimes that I didn’t. Believe you me, it is a difficult thing nowadays to have a gypsy heart. The world is set up in a manner where you are better off, if you don’t have a raving, roaming, travelling gypsy heart. It is better if you have a heart that likes to stay in one place for all of its life, one place forever and ever. Preferably the place where you were born and where you are going to die. The world doesn’t like too much movement right now. Why can’t you just be happy staying in one place, for God’s sake, people admonish me.

I am happy enough to live in one place, they say to me. If I can be happy like that, you can be happy like that as well. They give me examples of hundreds of thousands of millions of souls who are able to stay in place and remain quite happy. They give me examples of hundreds of thousands of people who moved to a different place and had a horrible ending to their life.

I sit down and listen to all of this. I nod my head, and agree, because that is all I can really do. (more…)

I Experience Ecstasy In Day To Day Life Now

  • Reading time:6 mins read

I live an unusual sort of life, but I don’t really notice the difference until I mingle with the Muggles. The magic that I experience on a daily basis because of the flow state that I have cultivated in my life. Everything I do brings me into the flow state. It is about living life so fully and so experientially that everything is absolutely perfect. I guess what I am trying to do here is put into words something that can only be experienced.

I could try and talk to you about it, and I have tried. But you are just going to look at me like I am insane. It is how I used to look at individuals who spoke to me of flow, magic, and creativity in the past. They used to tell me about their own life and how intermingled with faith, the divine, and the ecstatic it is. I would listen and in my head, I would think as you probably are, ‘What a lot of crock!’

I don’t try to explain anymore. There is no point in explaining a state of consciousness that has no parallel. No parallel at all.

There is nothing that can touch it. There are no fake substitutes here. Either you are in it, and you know it, and can’t explain it. Or you aren’t, and you want it or you don’t know that it exists and you are oblivious to everything.

Either way it works out really well for everyone in question. (more…)

Results Oriented To Process – How To Focus On The Right Stuff

  • Reading time:8 mins read

From the time we are children, we are taught a mistruth. It’s such a mind-boggling lie, that I’m surprised society still deigns to teach little susceptible minds such a lie. I was taught this lie, as were you. It is the lie below.

The only thing that matters in all that we do is that we succeed. It doesn’t matter if we gave our level best, or that we enjoy doing said items. If we do not succeed, that item doesn’t matter.

Does this lie ring a bell? It isn’t the only lie that is spoon fed to us. And there are many others that are being fed to us. I think this lie is the worst of them all because it ruins all good things in our lives.

For example, I loved to write as a child. I loved creating new stories out of nothing but my imagination. I would sit down for hours with the children in my neighbourhood on cold pavements, and draughty stairwells, and awe them with horror stories, and fantasy stories. Worlds made up entirely out of nothing, but a few neurons beating to the same pulse in my head. It was miraculous. To me. Everyone else thought it was a waste of time.

You are a great writer, they said. But it will never make you any money. It will never change the world. It will never make you rich, and famous. It isn’t a useful skill in any regard. You should focus all of your efforts on something different, like the Sciences, or Maths – these will at least get you a great well-paying job. (more…)

How To Realistically Write 3000 Words per Day

  • Reading time:16 mins read

Write 3000 Words Every Day

I am 33 years old, and I have never been consistent with anything except writing. I have been writing hundreds of words every day since I was 12 years old. Most days it was just journaling. To write 3000 words every day seemed like an unachievable goal.

But recently, I have been realizing more and more that I want to write fiction not only to teach but to inspire, and entertain. I love to use my imagination to create all of these amazing worlds that are full of characters and situations that are only prevalent in my mind. It is my joy.

Over the past few months, I have started to become more vocal about the fact that I write so much. It has been such a part of my life that I never really thought much of it. Until some people started telling me that this isn’t normal. It isn’t normal to write 3000 words every day. Only a minor percentage of people are able to maintain the discipline to build consistency in their writing.

They asked me for my secret.

How am I able to write 3000 words every day?

I considered the question and I culled it down to the following ten fixations that are responsible for my productivity with writing. I wanted to share it with the world in the hopes that one or more of these will cause you to start writing more.

Building these rituals, or habits into my daily lifestyle and into my mindset has caused me to become a writing fiend.

Not only that, but I am not wasting hours and hours in Imposter Syndrome mentality, or worrying about the quality of my writing versus the writing geniuses.

10 Things I Learned From Completing Nanowrimo – 50,000 Words

  • Reading time:10 mins read

I think Chiang Mai has a special atmosphere as I have tried to enroll and write 50,000 words before for Nanowrimo, but I have never been able to complete them with such ease as this time around. The words just flew out of me onto the page as if they had been waiting for decades. I’m so excited to share the story I have written with the world, and let them enter the magical world that I have created for them to enjoy for a few hours.

In my quest to complete 50,000 words at 1,667 words a day, I have learned a lot about myself, and some about writing. I wanted to share that with you. I hope some of what I have learned will help you in your own writing, and also, maybe prod you to start writing consistently as much as possible.

Slow And Steady Wins The Race

Seriously, how many times have you heard the saying above in your short life? I bet you it has been at least half a dozen times if not more. You don’t realize the power of being slow and steady until you take on something as big as writing a book of 50,000 words or more. When I sat down on November 1st to write my 1,667 words, I wasn’t thinking about the monumental task of writing 50,000 words. I just looked at the small task in front of me. All I had to do each day was write my 1,667 words. Chunking a huge task into such a small one really helped me keep going. I didn’t worry about how I would get to 50,000 words. I just worried about doing my words each day. (more…)
